Dr Wee: Stability and prosperity the perfect formula for success

ALOR SETAR: Barisan Nasional's success in state election in Johor is a testament that stability and prosperity is needed to form a stable government, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said the state election in Johor was a test for Barisan and it was proof that the theory of stability and prosperity can be replicated in the 15th General Election (GE15).

"If there is a correlation between the theory of stability and prosperity, the Johor state election would be the best example.

"It is no longer a theory but a reality that has been proved from the results (achieved during Johor state election)," he said.

The Transport Minister said during the Johor election in March, Barisan recorded a landslide victory with 40 seats, compared to only 17 parliamentary seats that were won in GE14.

He said MCA was able to win four state seats from DAP and only narrowly lost two states seats.

The Johor state election saw Pakatan Harapan only win 12 seats, Perikatan Nasional had three seats and the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) clinched one.

He said this winning formula could be repeated in GE15 and this was what had been hoped by the Barisan election machinery all over the country.

Dr Wee said this during a visit to Alor Setar MCA division office while on his campaign trail to help Barisan candidates for Alor Setar parliament Tan Chee Hiong who would be contesting in GE15.

He urged voters in Alor Setar to vote for Tan as he was born in Alor Setar and knows what people of Alor Setar needed for the future.

"I have said GE15 for us this time is very important as it can help us to cement our position in the Federal government," he said.

Tan, 43, was born and raised in Simpang Kuala Alor Setar, would be contesting for the first time and was up against Perikatan Nasional's Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamuddin, Datuk Mohamad Nuhairi Rahmat of Pejuang, Datuk Fadzil Hanafi from Warisan and Pakatan Harapan's Simon Ooi.

He was also facing independent candidates, former state Works Department director Datuk Nordin Yunus and former civil servant Sofan Feroza Md Yusup.
